I want to say that I am not a picky traveler or focus on bad things in a property. I was excited to come here based on reviews and a suggestion from a friend (turns out he hadn't been here in 10 years). This hotel is a let down, its not terrible but not a 5 star hotel by any means. Its older, needs remodel, has limited food choices and any food that we have tried is mediocre at best. I have never been to a 5 star hotel and can not wait to get something like a subway sandwich because nothing here sounds remotely appealing. The best part of this hotel is the beach and location, but don't expect a 5 star experience. Staying here now and cant wait to leave. Last year we stayed at the JW Marriot and there is NOOOO comparison.
"Impeccable service, pristine beach and great ammenities"
We had concerns when booking this resort because it felt like a massive location. We were looking for an escape from the crowds and not have to fight for reservations etc. All those worries were for naught. While they were fully booked, they were heavily staffed and had a massive pool that stretched almost the span of the hotel, tons of options at the marina and restaurants that could accommodate enough of their guests without long wait times. By far, their level of service was the most memorable part of our stay. The staff communicated with each other effortlessly about details that mattered to us. When one of our plans with the marina was cancelled, within minutes someone from the front desk called offering alternate solutions to venture out. When I said I would consider it, someone else called a few minutes after and said they would help with All arrangements so we wouldn’t have to worry about a thing. Our private round trip ride was even complimentary. What was even more impressive about the service was that the staff was genuine about it all! Didn’t feel like they were trained or forced. If you’re looking for a relaxing escape to white sandy beaches and to experience what good hospitality really looks and feels like, then this is the place for you.
"Another great visit "
Upon check in Barbara welcomed us at the front desk. She was great, we like to stay towards the left side overlooking the pool. The Gem spa is also great. Guadalupe was also great and has been with the spa for 6 years. It's one of our favorite places to vacation.
"Beautiful Resort with incredible staff!"
We recently visited this resort for a conference and were so incredibly impressed with almost every aspect of this hotel. I say almost because there is one flaw, but for the most part, it was a great experience.
The resort itself is really spectacular. Very grand, very pretty, very modern with traditional Mexican touches. The resort is very large (large enough to house a conference of over 800 guests, but the property is easily navigated with convenience to amenities such as the concierge, towel service for the pool and beach, bars, beach service, restaurants on premises, and Cancun city for shops, restaurants and bars.
The service was amazing! Every single employee from the valet to beach service, to wait staff was incredibly polite and always providing incredible customer care.
Now for the flaw... food in all on-site restaurants (with the exception of the beach buffet) was incredibly bland. We were expecting traditional Mexican flavors and cuisine, which you could order in La Joya (on-site Mexican restaurant), but everything was simple and bland with no flavor. It was very disappointing. Even the french restaurant on-site, which was an extra fee and provided incredible service, had less than stellar food.
Outside of that, we were not disappointed at all. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious, and we were treated to turn-down service with chocolates ever night. The beach service was exceptional, and EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE was always smiling, and giving a response of, "it's a pleasure," when asked for assistance.
Close enough to walk to bars, restaurants, and shops in Cancun, we ventured into town a couple of times. We felt very safe walking to and from the hotel both during the day and at night.
A few tips:
Do not bother with the guys greeting you at the airport as soon as you step through Customs... Their goal is to sell you transportation and tours. All of which can be arranged through the resort concierge.
Expect to be hassled non stop walking through the craft market in Cancun. It's great to visit and a perfect place to buy souvenirs, but you WILL be hassled by every shop worker to visit their stall.
Don't stress over getting a spot on the beach - they have PLENTY of beach chairs and if you don't get one near or under a palapa, they have portable umbrellas that they will set up for you over your chair.
Towel service is excellent, so another thing you do not have to stress over.
Overall, I highly recommend this resort. It was a wonderful and relaxing way to enjoy a work conference and we would definitely go back!
"Nice but hyped up place"
This is a nice resort but nothing like the reviews here indicate. Perhaps TA scrubs the bad reviews to get more clicks on its bookings.
The good: The building and location are awesome. The pool is really good and so is the beach outside. The room is big and comfortable with a superb view.
The bad: Service is of a lower standard than a 3 star hotel in the US. We have a Costco deal with perks like "kids eat free". However, the kids menu has very few choices and it is the same menu is all restaurants! The restaurant we wanted to eat in was closed for a private event. We are vegetarian and ordered an entree with no meat but it had bacon in it. We didn't even get an apology from a manager. The food also takes a really really long time to arrive. The concierge service was poor; she didn't know much about the hotel itself so I didn't care to ask about other things. I got better information from travel agents outside. Overall the staff is courteous but untrained in hospitality.
