Grand Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive Adults Only
"So glad we moved to Secrets/NowAmber a week before!"
We luckily read all the reviews of the sickness going on around GF and cancelled one day before our last cancellation date. We cancelled and rebooked one week before we left thank god! Secrets/Now Amber was absolutely amazing and a top notch resort. We paid the same price to go to Now Amber and paid the 50.00 extra per day to be able to go over to Secrets every day and enjoy the adults only pool and restaurants. GF should probably shut down and do a thorough 2 week clean to rid the resort of the infection going on there. I loved PV and switching to Now Amber/Secrets was the best move we ever made and enjoyed a sick free vacation! GF please admit you have a problem and shut down and stop ruining vacations!
"Not a 5 star"
Stayed here the first week in February. As others have stated, there is a wicked gastro-intestinal bug running rampant at the resort. My husband was leveled by it, as was almost everyone we spoke to. That notwithstanding, I still would not consider this a five star hotel. The food was mediocre at best. The buffet food was luke warm, and they ran out of things often. Our room had an extremely musty smell- I’m used to this in Mexico to some extent, but this was really strong. On two occasions, I returned to the room to shower, and there was no water. The sun does not hit the beach or pool until afternoon, except for one small area that gets it around 10:00- but they take up half of that space with the sound system. No room to walk on the beach. The staff was friendly and accomodating- by far the best thing about the resort. No one I talked to planned to return there.
"Keep lookin, unless you want to be poisoned"
4 start for hotel and location 1 star for little beach, little sun 1 star for no jacuzzi, what looks like a jacuzzi is just the same temp as the pool water 5 stars for pool side service 0 stars for overall hotel service, prepare to have to bug or be a pest if you want anything, it's advertised as all you can eat, but merely impossible to get food. When you call for room service you are transferred or hung up on, you will have to call multiple times. Wait time, exceeds 45 minutes even if it's just toast. All food arrives cold. 3 star for buffet, good selection day 1, however, be prepared that it's the same everyday. 0 stars for restaurant hours, yes it's all inclusive but there are limited hours of operation, example, only open 2-6pm. 4 stars if you are a drinker, there seems to be booze everywhere, not a drinker myself, but seems to be on point. ***the big problem*** Please sort reviews by newest first, myself and a plethora of other guest where bed rested due to FOOD POISONING!! Mine came at the hands of "The Cevicheria", the lobster grounded me, 2 days of constant pain, vomiting and you know what else. Had the on site Dr. come to my room, she was nice but explained this happens all the time, and I was her 7th visit this hour, wow!! Please read other reviews to show this seems to be a common theme. I'm not one to be picky, but when I pay a large amount of money, and I get sick because of sanitation, then yes I'm upset because I don't have a common cold, your food you serve at your resort got me sick. Lost money, lost time, wasted 2 days of vacation, unable to do excursion with no refund.
"WE BOTH GOT VERY ILL"
My partner and I visited this hotel on the 1st February and should have stayed for two weeks. To start this review I would very much like to thank Alain Berthelot. The so called manager of this terrible hotel for ruining our two week holiday. We were both so ill we had to miss a wedding that we travelled to Puerto Vallarta for. I did ask to speak to you a few times on our last days with you but for various reasons you were unable too. We asked our rep from TUI to move us or we were going to fly home. He finally moved us to the Now Amber Resort and Spa. If Alain Berthelot is going to reply to this review please visit the Now Amber with all your management team and more importantly your head chefs to see how to achieve and maintain the highest standards of a five star hotel serving food to a standard that was not short of excellence........ We arrived at the Grand Fiesta late afternoon on Friday 1st Feb 2019. The check in took nearly 45 minutes because the cards for the room did not work, the boy helping with the luggage tried with his card that didn't work also. He then went back down to reception and got replacement cards. He returned some time later and guess what? They didn't work either. All back down to reception and eventually we were allocated another room on the 10th floor.Room 1036. We got to the room and thankfully we were able to get in, only to find a room that was musky and smelt of damp. But we had travelled there from Cyprus and were both exhausted so decided to air the room and stay there for a while and hoped the smell got better. We never left the hotel, nor did we use the pool or sea. (It was very noisey most of the day and night and all the beds were saved by 0700am every morning even though the hotel policy stated it was not allowed) The following two days we both felt sick and had stomach problems. We then only ate toast and fruit .We put it down to the change in food and didn't think much about it. Then on the Monday evening Sue got very, very ill. Projectile vomiting and diarrhea so bad we couldn't leave the room. I cant write how bad she got, all I need to say we were up at 3am clearing the bed and the toilet/bathroom. This continued all day Tuesday. During Tuesday I started to feel very ill, by the evening I was in agony when I urinated I was crying out in pain. I called in a doctor on Wednesday morning and she diagnosed I had caught a bacterial infection that attacked my urinal track, bladder, kidneys and broke out on my face, that she felt was caused by eating contaminated meat. I was given a 8 day course of antibiotics, pain killers and high strength vitamin C tablets. The only place we ate on the Monday was the Shore Grill, Sue had a burger I had a steak. When we told the staff none of them seemed bothered. We both had food poisoning again at the end of the week. It was from club sandwiches we ordered for room service before we left on Saturday 9th Feb. There was never hot water in the rooms, only luke warm at the best. Three times I went to have a shower and there was no running water. Only once they put a note under the door stating it was being turned off for maintainance. The hotel pools and very small beach (mostly rocks) do not get the sun until the afternoon. Our room and most other rooms do not get the sun at all. (Hence the smell in the rooms)The cleaning of glasses were poor, I presume cleaned with cold water. We were served drinks with lipstick on from a previous user. The food handling procedures must be so poor at all restaurants at this hotel we were frightened to eat there so we ate out for the last day or so. Whilst we stayed here, there were lots of people being sick, complaining about the food and the smell in there room. For certain we would not go back to this hotel even if the hotel offered to pay, It was that bad. All the food at this hotel is poor quality and there in house food handling is very, very very poor. Do not even think about staying at this place!!! . When we arrived at the New Amber all the staff had heard of the food poising at GFA and some thought it had been closed down. (We wished it had in January) I could carry on but I think this review is enough for prospective visitors. Lastly, I do hope that the manager visits the Now Amber resort and Spa. As I said at the beginning of this review you will see the difference between a five star Now Amber hotel and the 1 to 2 star at most the hotel you offer.
"Good trip but not outstanding"
My husband and I stayed here from Feb. 11-16. I was extremely concerned after reading about the sickness going around so we went prepared with antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, medicine, our own straws, cups, etc. We ended up not using them and neither of us became ill. We also met some new friends who didn't become ill either. We ate at every restaurant and drank at every bar without issue. Our overall experience was good. But not superb, mainly because of inconsistencies. Some staff are excellent (David at the pool bar, Miguel at Yuu) but others seemed annoyed by our mere presence. The room was cleaned perfectly one day then they'd left us with only one towel another day. Our balcony had cigarette butts in the corner upon check in. But the mini fridge was restocked daily. There was a plastic bottle lid on a lounge chair near the elevator bank on our floor (7 north) when we arrived and it became a running joke between my husband and I that it was still there when we checked out 6 days later. Just not a lot of attention to detail. I would bet it's still there. The food was average, much what you'd expect from an all- inclusive resort. Some highlights were the omelette station at the breakfast buffet, the sushi at Yuu, and we really enjoyed the small bites at the tapas restaurant, Serrano Station. The drinks were a bit weak but they gladly give doubles and even triples when requested. The steak restaurant was closed for the entire visit which was extremely disappointing. The pool had some pros and cons, some completely out of the control of hotel staff. As many have mentioned, sun doesn't reach the entire pool area until midday so we went down early every day to claim our chairs by the north pool where the sun reaches first. The hot tubs were barely warm. And every day we found loose tiles in the pool and one day we found several bundles of thin wire. We told the cocktail server and he acted like he absolutely didn't care. But David was incredible and we never wanted for anything when we were in his area. He made our pool time very enjoyable. Overall we had a good vacation and enjoyed our time together. But it's unlikely we would choose this resort again over others in the area that were far superior for similar prices.
