GRAND FIESTA AMERICANA OAXACA: A FUSION OF TRADITION AND MODERNITY

The word "Guelaguetza," which in Zapotec means mutual aid, giving the best of oneself. It is as if in this hotel, this word "guelaguetza" is represented very well, offering and embodying the best and the essence of the craftsmanship of the communities that make up the region of the Central Valleys.

Tresmásdos, the studio in charge of the interior design of our hotel, proposed assigning a representative town or archaeological site of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca to each of the hotel's spaces. This way, users are offered the possibility of getting to know a sample of the historical, artistic, and cultural richness that this land offers us, arousing the curiosity of guests and visitors to explore Oaxaca in Mexico.

This architectural project of the Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca hotel has won the hotel category of the International PIPA Award organized worldwide by PORCELANOSA, which seeks to promote the creativity of architects from all over the world, focusing on "design integrated into the environment."

Just as the capital of Oaxaca brings together the towns, similarly in the hotel, guests or visitors gather in its common areas. That's why in the lobby and common areas of the hotel, there is a concentration of various elements representative of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, highlighting its richness with a contemporary touch.

Archaeological sites such as Monte Albán and Mitla are reflected in the pool areas and the events hall, preserving ornamental elements such as fretwork, as well as the colors and stone constructions, imitating their beautiful temples.

Black clay pottery is a common thread throughout the hotel, concentrated and highlighted in Stelaris Cocktail Bar - representing the pottery community of San Bartolo Coyotepec.

Likewise, alebrijes are used in various areas of the hotel, taking center stage in the Restaurant La Distral, showing the process of raw pieces made in San Martín Tilcajete and San Antonio Arrazola.

Areas such as the "Business Center" and the "Grand Club" showcase artisanal textile crafts to represent two of the most representative textile communities: Teotitlán del Valle and Santo Tomás Jalieza, where they currently weave on pedal looms and waist looms respectively, using different ancestral dyes like cochineal, walnut, etc.

The Nabane Spa reflects, in its finishes and essence, the colors of the petrified waterfalls and the relaxing sensation offered by the large natural reserve of Hierve el Agua, which was probably a sacred Zapotec site.

Finally, Santa María Atzompa has remained in the Oaxaca Valley as a producer of utilitarian ceramics, with the technique of glazing or pastillage enameling, whose craftsmanship is reflected in areas such as pool access, gym, and spa.

Our pool pays tribute to the Archaeological Center of Monte Albán. On its walls, you can see fretwork, mounds representing the site from above, and on its ceiling, we can observe glyphs of a warrior shield.
